Did you know that the average American will move more than 11 times during their lifetime and that in the last five years 25% of American adults did move? According to a recent Gallup study, we live in the country where people have and do move the most frequently during a lifetime. Equally as interesting are facts including that 20 million Americans live in mobile homes, 40 million Americans go camping every year, and between 500,000 and 1,000,000 Americans are homeless throughout the year. For these reasons, I found it important to both evaluate and understand the American nomadic lifestyle options that already exist. Through the analysis and recording of historic and current nomadic settlements, we can begin to see when, how and why these housing types evolved to inform thoughtful solutions for nomadic living today.
